WHAT DOES SHIP’s LOGO REPRESENT?
When I was coming up with ideas for a logo for SHIP I wanted to use some sort of sea going vessel, a SHIP. However, the boat was already being used by the ARC Program I then wanted to use a house but the house was being used by several other programs.
So, I drew a boat and put the house on the boat. I wanted to include something to represent the mission and those in need. To do this I placed the figures of a woman and a child in the house on the SHIP. I then added a one legged teddy bear being held by the child to represent poverty.
To include faith I used the symbol of the fish as an anchor portal in the front of the SHIP. To symbolize God I placed a dove hovering above the SHIP, praying that God will keep SHIP under His wings and keep the wind in our sails.
The smoke stack on the vessel is the acronym for the Samaritan Homeless Interim Program (SHIP). Finally, after adding some waves the boat was afloat and the rest is history.
The final draft was drawn by Loni Montgomery from Saint Martin’s Episcopal Church in Bridgewater. If you look close you can se her initials on the rear of the SHIP.
